I visited the Friday night buffet at NEXT2 Café, Shangri-La Bangkok, which currently features a Surf & Turf theme. There’s a great promotion going on right now — you can purchase a voucher via the hotel’s website for 2,400 THB for 2 persons, which works out to just 1,200 THB per person. For this quality, I think it’s the best-value buffet I’ve ever experienced.

Why? Because I’ve never seen another buffet in this price range offering unlimited Canadian lobster, generous servings of foie gras, and high-quality meat cuts all in one place.

🦞 Highlights

I was tempted to try the buffet again after seeing an ad on the hotel’s Facebook page, especially the mention of unlimited lobster.

I had been here a few years ago and had a good experience, so it didn’t take much to convince me to return.

I made a reservation in advance (which I highly recommend — it gets crowded).

Seating options include indoor and outdoor areas. Since it was raining that evening, we chose to sit indoors.

🍽️ Food Stations

The spread covers a wide range of cuisines and lives up to what you’d expect from a 5-star hotel. Notable highlights include:

Unlimited Canadian lobster – perfectly sized, packed with roe, firm and sweet meat. Absolutely delicious.

Alaskan king crab legs – impressively large, though not quite as sweet as the lobster.

Foie gras – excellent quality, served with salad greens and balsamic dressing. You can order as much as you like.

US prime rib – tender and flavorful, accompanied by several sauces. There’s also short rib and various BBQ options.

Steamed seafood – plentiful and fresh.

Indian food – surprisingly excellent! Possibly better than many hotel buffets I’ve tried.

Chinese food – there was “Peking duck,” though it seemed more like roast duck with pancakes and a sweet hoisin-style sauce. Still tasty, but not traditional Peking duck.

Crispy pork and char siu – quite decent.

Pasta station – multiple pasta options cooked al dente.

Japanese section – plenty of variety, though I didn’t sample much this time.

Cheese selection – good variety and quality.

Thai food station – located riverside; we didn’t get around to trying it.

🍨 Desserts

A must-mention is their classic rotating homemade ice cream pot, a mainstay of the buffet for decades. Many unique flavors to choose from.
My personal favorite this time was pistachio, which reminded me of my favorite milk drinks — rich, fragrant, and refreshing.
They also had four kinds of chocolate, all very good, and delicious macarons.
I tried two cakes — tiramisu and passionfruit — which were okay but not outstanding.

💬 Final Thoughts

At just 1,200 THB per person, this buffet exceeded my expectations. The ingredients were of high quality, and I suspect the pricing is promotional — the place was very busy. Thankfully, I had booked several days in advance.

Service was excellent. I was especially impressed by a gentleman in a suit who was extremely attentive. We arrived about 15 minutes early and were welcomed in to rest and start helping ourselves to food as soon as some stations were ready.

The riverside ambiance at night is gorgeous, even with the rain. Although no one sat outside that night, the air was crisp and cool — perfect for a post-dinner stroll by the river.

⚠️ Some Notes

Drinks not included (except tea and coffee). If you're okay with just tea or coffee, no problem. We ordered soda, which added a bit to the bill — but prices weren’t unreasonable.

Lobster can run out momentarily, especially the tail sections, but they do get replenished regularly. Claws were almost always available.

Certain items may not be available on Fridays — like lamb racks or oysters. I asked about the lamb and was told it's served on Saturday nights instead.

⭐ Overall:

For anyone who enjoys seafood — especially lobster lovers — this buffet is an unbeatable deal at this price point. Highly recommended, especially during the current promotion.

Friday Night Buffet at Shangri-La Bangkok – Excellent Value with Unlimited Lobster!

Where to start, firstly we decided to go to this restaurant after much research thinking that it was to be an upmarket place to go and although the venue was nice and right on the river that's where the good ended.
This is advertised as an international buffet consisting of Seafood and international food selection, well a seafood selection void of oysters unheard of the only seafood items were prawns, mussels, crab and that's it and so far as International Cuisine someone needs to inform them that there are a lot more nationalities other than Thai and Indian because that was all that was on offer no Roast Meats of any kind no potatoes just Thai stir fries and Indian curry dishes.
What an absolute let down and not to mention a rippoff  oh and the desserts lets just say that they were on par with what you would get at a Pizza Hut so in closing do yourself a favour and give this place a wide birth if you are looking for an International Seafood Buffet.

False Advertising

This is such a lovely spot to sit and have dinner.  It’s located in the Shangri-La Hotel beside the Chaophraya River.  The food here is always amazing with so much choice.  I would definitely recommend the buffet.
The variety and quality of the ingredients is superb.
The staff are so helpful and friendly too, helping with dietary requirements making sure you have plenty of variety.

We stayed in the Shangri-La for a week and ate breakfast here every day which was just delightful.  We also had the evening buffet three times it was so good.  It caters for everyone.

Although not the cheapest, the buffet is worth every baht.  There is so much to choose from.  There is also an al a carte menu if you don’t want the buffet.

Although all the staff are fantastic I want to mention three of the staff who were particularly kind ensuring we always had everything we could have wanted, they are Koi, Trin and Benz.  My friend is vegetarian and they would ensure she had as much choice even asking the chefs to prepare something not on the buffet for her to try at no additional cost.

I just love it here!

A Special Place

Stayed at the Shangri-La and came to eat with the A-La-Carte menu. Worked really great as half of our party could eat Thai food and the other western food. We’re considerate with our allergies which is important to us. Staff really friendly and couldn’t have done anymore to help. Food was to a high standard. Excellent views too.

Recommend

We went on the,newly recommenced Shangri La Hotel Horizon Dinner Cruise. The boat has been fitted out to a high standard & whilst this is a buffet  cruise, the standard of the food was excellent. The atmosphere, music & service (from Thong & the team) were also to a very high standard & we would totally recommend this trip if you are visiting Bangkok & want to take in the sights at night.

There are free flow soft drinks although you do have to purchase alcoholic drinks, (maybe Shangri La could consider a drinks package as an “add on”) & personally we would recommend sitting on the right hand side of the boat as you enter the dining area as we felt that the view was better from this side both going up & coming back down the river as the boat tended to be closer to the right hand side of the river bank. 

Will definitely do again on our next visit.
