Gosh it’s a hard one. First and foremost - this zoo does indeed have small enclosures and does not meet the ethics of other zoos I have visited. I’m no eco warrior…however I found the tiger enclosures despicably small, and the solitary elephant being made to wave made me feel a bit sick. 

However, we had visited 15 years ago and e joyed it, and wanted to bring our young family, who loved it. And it was also educational, as we discussed as a family about how some animals just shouldn’t be in zoos. 

My 7yo favourite was getting to meet owls and lizards…it was nice to have that low key option! 
And both girls loved getting on the trucks in the dark and of course feeding the giraffes. 

I found the food options to actually be pretty good for this sort of venue. I paid only 20 baht for a serving of pad see ew…which was fresh and tasty…quite unexpected for a tourist trap.

One thing that was very hard was the volume….everything is extra and loud!! My eldest used her loops as it was that overwhelming! 

All in all, a lovely family evening, but definitely some parts I struggled with.

Young children adored. Struggled with ethics.

I'm not a huge fan of this kind of attractions but I followed my friends and it was a fun afternoon/evening. The two tours are very cool, but the tiger show is not very interesting and I felt bad for the tigers, they looked depressed and didn't do a lot of the tricks the guys asked for.

This is a for-profit and only entertainment business. Ethical zoos exist for education and conservation. Animal enclosures are too small and have few stimulation opportunities. Tiger shows are cruel (we didn't go). Many of the placards were entirely incorrect! (i.e. Fennec Foxes are from North America?!!!)  Very sad place, animal cruelty abounds. Avoid avoid avoid!

Night Safari should be shut down! Unethical! Felt sad and dirty after being there.

It wasn’t that much worse than other zoos, despite what some of the other reviews claim. You can walk around and see the animals at your own pace if you prefer. If you go on the little buses you get to see the bigger more exotic animals, be advised the volume from the speakers from the tour guide is extremely loud, so I would not recommend it to babies or really young children. And perhaps avoid the tiger show, it’s crazy how they get big cats to obey like dogs, that’s what my party told me, but I also avoided it because volume was way too loud for a baby. Overall, if you’ve done all the other tourists things in Chiang Mai and is desperate for one more, sure it’s not the worst time you’ll have. But if you don’t go, you wouldn’t have missed anything.
