Despite the name, there is nothing truly ancient about this place — just life-sized replicas and, unfortunately, yet another hotspot for scams. Be smart: buy your tickets on Klook.com where it’s 50% cheaper than at the entrance.

Expect a cash deposit of 5,000 THB for a golf cart or 1,000 THB for an electric bike — even if you pay by card, they refund you in cash. We opted for the bus/tram at 80 THB per person, which was advertised as making 5 stops to cover the whole park. That’s a lie — it only stops 3 times, so you only see about a third of the park unless you’re ready to walk 15 km under the heat.

Worst of all, the treatment of animals is appalling. Tourists can ride elephants and water buffalos for entertainment. Absolutely disgusting and outdated.

Yes, it looks nice in pictures and it's only an hour from Bangkok by taxi — but be warned. The staff was unfriendly, the experience poorly organised, and the atmosphere unpleasant. We left after 2 hours, mostly spent waiting 15 minutes at each tram stop. Overall, we were just disappointed and disgusted by the whole visit.

Disappointing Experience at Ancient City Bangkok

Park is poorly maintained and over-rated. There are legitimate temples that are much more beautiful, smell less terrible, and don’t actively contribute to animal abuse. All elephant conditions are horrendous as well.

Animal abuse and smelly park

The way elephants were being treated here was disgusting. The elephants were treated like objects, chained up in a small area or forced to give rides to tourists (which is *not* good for elephants mentally or physically). Hardly felt entirely safe being able to walk so close to mistreated elephants either - seems like a disaster waiting to happen. 

After seeing the elephants, I felt so disgusted that my ticket had paid to support this place. I really tried my best to enjoy the rest of my time here, but it was simply impossible. I ended up leaving feeling miserable after just under 2 hours in the park. I would've been far happier walking around Bangkok drinking tea all day.

A waste of time and money to be honest. The buildings look quite nice - except for the significant number of them which are unfinished or under renovation. I cannot honestly think who I would recommend this park to. I really did not like it, and I am shocked to find that is a controversial opinion. Despite having travelled extensively, this is the first place I was so thoroughly disappointed with that I felt the need to write anything on TripAdvisor.

The advertising and the impression given by the website and some reviews is very deceptive.  It's poor value for money ; the entrance fee is 800 baht for which you got a 2 hour slot on a tram with 20 minutes at 5 pre chosen sites. We didn't get to see all the attractions, we would have had to hire an individual golf cart at an individual cost of 350 additional baht to do that.  There is no commentary from the driver.  Some of the reconstructions of the temples etc magnificent but they are essentially fakes. We paid less for a whole day at the grand palace itself.  
We were particularly disappointed that the floating market didn't have any boats or any market.  Some pretty wooden houses joined by a walkway is all that was there. 
Our most serious concern was for the elephants that were being kept in terrible conditions and being ridden by tourists. They were chained and being goaded with sharp sticks by keepers.  Having recently visited an ethical elephant sanctuary we were able to spot signs of distress and pain in the elephants  such as raw pink skin and worn ears and feet.  We were very sad to see this and would urge people not to visit. Please help save the elephants from this abuse.

Absolutely worth every second spent here! Such an incredible experience with such a well maintained and beautiful property; it’s hard to not stop at every attraction. 

We had so much fun with my friends we stay wholeday in this place but still we missed something. All in all experience was a great time in Ancient City 

Awesome Experience! Lots of different temples to see & take pictures with. The only downfall was that we could not go in the water in our elephant package and we were still expected to pay full price for not a full price experience.
